Major importance has to be given to energy conservation for energy efficiency. The most important step is to completely ban all regular bulbs import or their manufacture in Pakistan and only allow energy saver bulbs.
Secondly all street lights should be converted to energy saver bulbs immediately and all on/off switches on street lights should be replaced by day night sensors which will automatically turn lights on/off based on the natural light available.
Thirdly all solar power equipment should be made duty free and 50 per cent rebate further should be given on solar panels imported for tube well and water pumps for 2 years.
The above three steps will help save Pakistan’s huge foreign exchange in reduced oil and boost our manufacturing industry with additional power in a major way.
It would also make available at least 3000 MW nationwide if implemented in 6 months, with no investment required by the Government of Pakistan. It will also make Pakistan a greener, cleaner and healthier country.
I would strongly urge all DCOs to start implementation on energy saver bulbs and day/night sensors on all street lights in their jurisdiction and also urge alternative energy, commerce, power.
The finance departments should make necessary improvements and bring about more efficiency in their departments and policies.
