Fauzia Wahab resigns as PPP's information secretary
ISLAMABAD: Fauzia Wahab resigned from the position of central Secretary Information Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) on Saturday, DawnNews reported. Addressing a press conference, Fauzia said she resigned from the position for personal reasons. Regarding her press conference on Raymond Davis, Fauzia said her statements did not reflect the policy of the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and that they were her personal views. In her February 14 press conference, Fauzia had stated that US national Raymond Davis had a diplomatic visa and he could neither be arrested nor kept in custody under the Vienna Convention. “He (Davis) is a technical member of the US embassy’s diplomatic staff and according to Pakistani laws, any diplomat and technical or administrative staff cannot be arrested or taken into custody,” she had told reporters at the Karachi Press Club. After resigning, she said that she would continue to work for the PPP. Sources had earlier stated that the PPP had decided that Fauzia Wahab would be replaced by former information minister Qamar Zaman Kaira.
