Project to generate electricity from garbage, solid waste

KARACHI: A project has been prepared to generate electricity from garbage, solid waste. The scheme was also aimed at help control the environmental pollution.

An official said that in this connection a delegation led by Khalil Ahmed, ambassador-at-large-, met with the Sindh Chief Secretary, Ghulam Ali Pasha.

The delegation also included the Chinese experts in this very technology. It was pointed out that 96 megawatt of electricity would be generated from the disposal of the garbage and other solid waste.

The Chief Secretary asked the officials of the City District Government Karachi (CDGK) that an effective strategy should be chalked out in this connection so that after devising necessary rules and regulations and approval, the electricity should be generated.

The project would be pursued by the officials of the Shanghai Environmental Protection Company, the Government of Sindh and the CDGK, it was announced here on Sunday by an official statement of Sindh Chief Secretary's office.
