Kosgei scores unique win

NEWCASTLE (England), Oct 6: Kenyan Paul Kosgei clocked the first sub-hour half-marathon ever in Britain on Sunday when he won the Great North Run in 59min 58secs.

Kosgei sprinted clear of Tanzanian John Yuda in the final 400 metres to win in 59min 58secs.

Ireland’s Sonia O’Sullivan won the women’s event in a personal best 67min 19secs.

Susie Power of Australia was second with former champion Joyce Chepchumba from Kenya third. A record 47,000 runners took part.—Reuters
