GILGIT, Feb 9: The Gilgit-Baltistan government is yet to frame its own local government law though it was required to frame such rules after the Frontier Crimes Regulations were revoked in 1971 and a new governance system was introduced.“Though we have organised several local bodies elections, but as such we don't have proper rules of local government,” senior officials of the directorate of local government told this correspondent on Wednesday.
They said that elections held so far were organised under various laws in place in the four provinces and now it was time that the Gilgit-Baltistan enacted one such law.“Once the rules for local governments are drafted, a bill will be tabled in the Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly,” they said. — Correspondent
The officials said that the minister of local governments had asked the directorate of local government to consult with the GB's law department and frame rules for smooth functioning of the local government system.
