HYDERABAD, Oct 5: The Centre of Excellence in Analytical Chemistry (CEAC), University of Sindh, Jamshoro, and the Hussain Ebrahim Jamal Research Institute of Chemistry (HEJRIC), University of Karachi, here on Friday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to promote research and academic activities in both the institutes.

Under the MoU, both the institutes will encourage their faculties to develop joint PhD research projects in the field of food and environmental chemistry as well as take teaching assignments.

Transport and research facilities will be provided to the faculty members on mutual basis.

The CEAC and the HEJRIC will organize training workshops on chemical instrumentation and new analytical techniques and national and international symposia on subjects of interest.

Lectures on ongoing research and other important topics will be held on quarterly basis which will be attended by the academic staff and research fellows of the institutes.

The faculty members and research fellows of the CEAC and the HEJRIC will be given an access to library and information sources of these institutes. The research fellows will also be provided chemical analysis on academic rates as agreed upon between the two institutes.

A meeting of the directors of both the institutes or their representatives will be held at least once a year to chalk out academic activities and also to monitor the progress made in the light of the MoU.

Speaking on the occasion, the vice-chancellor of the Sindh University said both the universities would also work together for the promotion of research in other fields.

The MoU was signed by the vice-chancellor, University of Sindh, Mazharul Haq Siddiqui, director, CEAC, Dr M.I. Bhanghar, and the acting director, HEJRIC, Dr Mohammad Iqbal Chaudhry.
