Man jailed for nine years in attempted murder case

KARACHI, Jan 31: A sessions court on Monday sentenced a man to nine years in prison in an attempted murder case.

The court found Fayyaz Ahmed alias Farman guilty of trying to kill a man, Noor Nabi, in July 2002 within the remit of the Baldia Town police station.

Additional District and Sessions Judge (west) Irfan Ahmed Mayo also imposed a fine of Rs30,000 and in case of default the convict would have to suffer an additional six-month imprisonment.

However, the court exonerated the accused from charges of murder and attempted robbery for want of evidence.

The court ruled that the accused was entitled to the benefit of Section 382-B (period of detention to be considered while awarding sentence of imprisonment) of the criminal procedure code.

The convict was sent back to prison to serve out the remainder of his sentence.

According to the prosecution, on July 27, 2002 the accused along with his absconding accomplices broke into the house of Hazrat Nabi in Baldia Town for robbery. However, the inmates resisted and the accused opened fire leaving Gul Azam dead and Noor Nabi wounded. The police managed to arrest the accused the following day.

A case (FIR 96/02) was registered against the accused under Section 302 (premeditated murder), 324 (attempted murder), 398 (attempt to commit robbery when armed with deadly weapon), 109 (abetment) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Carjacker gets eight years in prison

A court on Monday sentenced a carjacker to a total of eight-year imprisonment in two cases.

The court found Mohammad Dilbar guilty in two cases of carjacking in the Gulshan-e-Iqbal area in 2009.

A senior civil judge (east) handed down a total of eight years in prison — five years and three years in the two respective cases — to the accused and imposed a fine Rs10,000 on him in each case. In case of non-payment, the convict would have to undergo an additional two-month imprisonment.

According to the prosecution, the accused along with the absconding accomplices in August 2009 snatched the car of Muhammad Arif and also deprived him of his cellphone and cash. In the second case, the accused had snatched the vehicle of Sheikh Hussain Zaidi in Nov 2009, but a police party after a chase arrested him and recovered the vehicle, it added.

Two cases (FIR 455/09 & 719/09) were registered against him under Sections 392 (punishment for robbery) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code at the Gulshan-i-Iqbal police station.Man jailed for two years

A sessions court on Monday sentenced a man to two years in prison in a land grabbing case.

District and Sessions Judge (Malir) Syed Kusar Ali Bukhari found accused Nisar Ahmed Burki guilty of unlawfully occupying the house of Mohammad Aslam in Gulzar-i-Hijri in May 2009.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs20,000 and in case of non-payment the convict would have to undergo an additional six-month imprisonment.

M. Aslam filed a direct complaint against the accused under Section 3 and 4 of the Illegal Dispossession Act, 2005 stating that the accused had illegally occupied his house located in Zareen corporative housing society, Gulzar-e-Hijri.

The accused was on bail and taken into custody from outside the courtroom after the pronouncement of the verdict and remanded to prison along with the conviction warrant.

The court also directed the SHO of the Sohrab Goth police station to give back the possession of the house in question to the complainant.
