HYDERABAD, Jan 27: Chairman of Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party (STP) Dr.Qadir Magsi has urged the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) to expel the Awami National Party (ANP) and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) from Sindh cabinet as they are responsible for lawlessness in Karachi.
He took a swipe at ANP chief Asfandyar Wali for asking share for Pakhtoons in Sindh and reminded him that he shouldn't forget his elder's claims that Pukhtoons are in Sindh just to earn their livelihood. He demanded that influx of people from different parts of the country and Afghanistan should be stopped forthwith.
He was addressing a press conference at Tarraqi Passand House on Thursday evening, along with party secretary general Dr.Rajab Memon, Dr.Hameed Memon, Muzaffar Kalhoro and Nandlal Malhi.
He spoke at length on prevailing situation of Karachi in the backdrop of accusations and counter accusations by MQM and ANP against each other.
Rejecting military operation and demand of martial law in Punjab, he called for empowering Sindh police, coupled with merit-based appointments, to get results. Such appointments should be made on the basis of rural-urban quota and jobs shouldn't be doled out to party MPAs and coalition allies. He reiterated his demand for Sindh paramilitary force comprising indigenous people.
At least 500 people have fallen prey to Karachi's target killings in last three years while PPP government is pursuing policy of appeasement at the cost resources of Sindh, he said. “We will do away with all these measures once we are in power”, he added. He blamed the establishment for playing a dubious role and hatching conspiracies as it had never felt at ease with the elected governments. He demanded judiciary's independence and autonomy. He said that calls for a revolution were just an attempt to misguide people.
He particularly discussed recent statement of Asfandyar Wali that Pakhtoons do have a right in Karachi. “He [Asfandyar] must keep in mind that it were his elders who had said that oppressed nations have complete sovereignty on their homelands and that Pakhtoons need to earn their livelihood in Karachi alone”, he said. He said that people should give-up 'Karachi being mini-Pakistan' mantra.
“But if you start laying claim on occupying this land [Karachi] we can't take things lying down”, he said. He further said: “Only indigenous people have right over Karachi”.
He asked ANP chief to give-up using language of intimidation and Ahmed Shah Abdali-type approach. “Otherwise we do remember our own brave heroes like Dodo”, he said. He wondered when ANP has a share in Sindh cabinet then what else share ANP chief was talking about. He said that Sindh doesn't respect those who had invaded it in the past.
