HYDERABAD, Oct 4: Sindh Governor Mohammedmian Soomro on Friday said that the government is providing maximum relief to the victims of the Rohri Canal breach for the first time.

The Sindh Governor said during a simple ceremony held at Bhitshah to distribute relief cheques among the victims of the breach.

Distributing cheques worth Rs10 million, Soomro lauded the services of the district Nazim, Makhdoom Rafiquzzaman, the DCO, Mir Hussain Ali and the Board of Revenue’s senior member, Manzoor Bhutto for providing assistance to the victims.

The Governor assured the people of Goth Sher Mohammad Thoro village that financial help will also be provided to victims of a similar breach, which had occurred over a year and a half ago.

He also assured the services of the temporary employees working at the Bhit Shah Cultural Centre will soon be confirmed. He added that they will be regularly paid their salaries.

He said that the children of the employees of the Centre will be given employment after their retirement.

Later, the district Nazim, Makhdoom Rafiquzzaman, thanked the Governor for providing relief to the victims of the canal breach.

Over 714 houses, 628 of which were located in Matiari taluka, were destroyed after the canal breach.

The victims in Matiari taluka alone were given a compensation amounting to Rs9.7 million. The vicitms, whose houses were located in Tando Adam, were paid a compensation of Rs860,000.

Cheques worth Rs20,000 paid to the victims whose houses were destroyed while Rs10,000 were given to those whose houses were partially damaged.

The district Nazim of Sanghar, Roshan Ali Junejo and other elected representatives were also present on the occasion.
