LAKKI MARWAT, Jan 12: The religious scholars have extended their full support to health authorities to make the anti-measles drive in the district a success.Speaking at a seminar here on Wednesday, Maulana Abdul Wahab, Mufti Mohammad Anwar Shah, Mufti Ihsanullah and others urged people to immunise their children against diseases of measles and polio.
“Islam asks the believers to take great care of health and take benefit from all available treatment and healthcare facilities,” they said.
They added that Islamic teachings it was the responsibility of parents to protect their children from diseases. “Children are more vulnerable to diseases like measles and polio and timely vaccination can save them from these ailments,” they said.
The religious scholars said that children were assets of nation. They said that ulema always supported the vaccination campaigns launched by healthdepartment in the district.
“We will request the prayer leaders to highlight the importance of vaccination in Friday sermons”, they maintained. They said that cooperation by ulema would help the authorities to make the campaign a success and ensure vaccination of the targeted population.
Speaking on the occasion, EDO Health Dr Abdul Ghaffar Wazir thanked the ulema for their support and said that the residents of the district besides giving due respect to the clerics also followed their instructions.
“No one can rule out the important role of ulema in our society,” he said. He hoped that the district health department would achieve the desired results of the anti-measles campaign with the help of ulema.
