MANSEHRA, Jan 8: Four persons, including a woman, were killed and five others suffered injuries when a passenger jeep plunged into a deep ravine in Kala Dhaka on Saturday.
The jeep, with 10 passengers onboard, was on its way to Oghi from Balkot area of Kala Dhaka when the driver lost control over wheel near Hotal area while negotiating a turn.
The vehicle fell into a deep ravine, leaving four persons dead and five injured. The killed were identified as Abdullah, the driver of the vehicle, Mohammad Ibrahim, his mother and daughter. The deceased passengers belonged to Topi area of Swabi.
Local people rushed to the spot and retrieved the bodies and injured. Two of the injured passengers were taken to Battagram hospital for the treatment.
It was the second accident on Kala Dhaka-Thakot Road, which was destroyed in the October 8, 2005 earthquake and could not be rebuilt.
Meanwhile, a couple was killed in the name of honour in Oghi village here on Saturday.
Bukhtawar Shah, the uncle of the slain girl, told police that his son Bakhtiar Shah went to the house of his uncle where he saw Mohammad Adil in objectionable condition with his cousin in her room. He opened firing on them and killed both of them on the spot. The accused managed to escape after the incident. The Oghi police lodged FIR and started investigation.
PROTEST: Hundreds of people took to streets in Gharihabibullah against shifting of Bisian Eye Hospital from Balakot to Charsadda.
The rally started from Jamia Masjid and culminated at the central square after passing through various roads.
The participants of the rally were chanting slogans against government. They demanded cancellation of the decision about shifting of the hospital. The hospital was established following the October 8, 2005 earthquake in Balakot.
Addressing the protesters, Mohammad Asif, Mohammad Arshad and others said that government had already shifted the machinery and equipment of various hospitals from Balakot and other areas. “We will die but will not allow the government to shift the hospital to any other area of the province,” they threatened.
They also demanded of the governor and chief minister to look into the matter and scrape the government’s plan to shift the hospital to Charsadda.
