ISLAMABAD: A delegation of senators belonging to the Awami National Party (ANP) called on Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani Friday afternoon and assured their party's complete support to him.

“Their party would never forget acceptance of their demand to rename the province and provincial autonomy,” they added.

During the meeting at his chamber in the Parliament House, the prime minister said he would hold a special meeting of the MNAs and Senators belonging to the flood affected areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to review the progress of rehabilitation work.

He further said that rehabilitation of the flood affected people is top priority of his government. He also directed the Ministers that the proposals given by the Senators be accorded proper attention.

The prime minister said his government is aware of the traffic problems of Peshawar city and intends to start work on construction of fly overs to overcome the problems.

He said that he has already announced construction of flyover on University Road in Peshawar which would help a great extent in providing relief to the people.

He also directed the concerned quarters to provide funds for water supply schemes of the Peshawar city.

The prime minister apprised the delegation about the Chinese government assistance of 340 million dollars for road repair work.

He said the assistance would help for renovation of road network in the country.

He further said that his government is paying special attention for the uplift of the backward areas to bring these at par with the developed regions of the country.

The Prime Minister said that he has appointed Woman Ombudsperson belonging to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to empower the women.

He further said that he intentionally selected a lady from the backward region of the country to raise awareness about the women rights.

Senators Haji Muhammad Adeel, Ilyas Ahmad Bilour and Muhammad Zahid Khan congratulated the Prime Minister on the unanimous passage of the 19th Amendment from both the Houses of the Parliament.

They said the credit for smooth passage of two constitutional amendments and 67 bills in one year goes to the prime minister and his government's reconciliatory policy.

The Senators also briefed the prime minister about the progress of public development schemes launched through the funds provided to them by the government. They also discussed the problems and bottlenecks in early completion of the public development schemes.
