PESHAWAR: In an upset, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa squash players won the Squash team event defeating their strong rivals Wapda in the 31st National Games played here on Thursday at Hashim Khan Squash Complex.

In the first match of the best of three, Waqar Mehboob Khan of Khyber defeated Asian gold medalists Amir Atlas Khan Pakhtunkhwa in a thrilling encounter. The score was 3-11, 8-11, 11-8, 11-6, and 14-12.

The second match was played between Mansoor Zaman of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa who beat Farhan Mehboob of Wapda by 11-5, 11-8, 10-12, 11-8. After wining both their games, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa obtained another gold medal for the province. HEC and Punjab were awarded bronze medals.

Volleyball: In the single league matches, the first match of the volleyball event was played between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Police which was won by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with three straight sets. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa team which mostly comprised of young players outclassed the defending champion Police by 25-18, 25-21, 25-23 sets. 

In the second match, it was Pakistan Navy which won its match against Pakistan Army. Both the team played well and got applause from the spectators present on the occasion. Pakistan Navy won the mach by 25-19, 25-22 and 25-20.

Table Tennis: In Table tennis (men) singles final Saleem Abbas of Wapda defeated Yousaf Raja of the same unit. The score was 11-6, 11-9, 11-8, and 8-11.15-13. Salman and Yasir Ali of Railways got bronze medals.

In men doubles event Saleem Abbas and Yousaf Raja of Wapda beat Asim Munir and Faryal of the same unit and won the gold medal. The score was 11-4, 11-9, and 11-7. Yasir Butt and Rahim of Punjab won bronze medal.

Judo: In Judo (women) event 40kg category Kiran of Army defeated Zahida Ranjha of Wapda and won a gold medal. Amna of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Rabia of Punjab won Bronze medals. The 44 kg category won by Araan of Army. She defeated Maryam of Wapda who received a silver medal. Mansha of Punjab and Masooma of Balochistan won bronze medals.

The below 48 kg category was won by Sonam of Wapda. Maryam of Punjab secured a silver medal while Saima of Army and Aiman Riaz of Sindh got bronze medals. In the open weight category, Humair of Wapda won a gold medal while Raheela of Punjab secured a silver medal. Fauzia of Army and Shumaila Naz of Police got bronze medals.

Baseball: In the baseball event, Army beat Wapda by 11-9 and won the gold medal. Police team stood on third position and got a bronze medal.

Hockey: Army and Punjab teams qualified for final which will be played today. In the first semi-final, Punjab beat Navy by 4-0. The second semi final was played between Pakistan Air Force (PAF) and Army which ended in a goalless draw. The Army team qualified for the final as it has won all its league matches. The third position went to Wapda as it beat Khyber Pakhtunkhwa team by 2-1.
