LAHORE, Dec 28: A special judicial magistrate on Tuesday allowed four-day physical remand of Muhammad Maalick, the manager of a company owned by Moonis Elahi, to the Federal Investigation Agency.
The FIA had on Monday arrested Maalick for his alleged involvement in the Rs3.3 billion National Insurance Corporation Limited (NICL) land scam. The agency had also seized record from Moonis's offices at Garden Town.
On Tuesday the FIA officials produced the accused before the magistrate and sought a seven-day remand, pleading that they had to recover the embezzled amount of Rs220 million which he had deposited with the account of Mohsin Warraich, one of the main accused.
The magistrate however allowed only four-day custody and directed the FIA officials to produce the accused again on Jan 1.
Former state minister for defence Habibullah Warraich, his son Mohsin Warraich and seven others were already in the FIA custody.
Habibullah had been charged with amassing Rs1.68 billion by selling land along with his cousin to the NICL at 10 times its price. The accused also defaulted on a bank loan of Rs550 million.
