THIS is apropos of the letter ‘Water shortage in Karachi’ (Dec 19) by Zakir Ali Khan.Although the media has been highlighting the problem of corruption, theft and irregularities in water distribution in Karachi, law enforcement agencies, the city administration and the provincial governments have never taken any proper and effective measures to stop this menace.

The water mafia is said to bribe and intimidate the police as well as the KWSB staff.

Residential areas such as Lyari, Keamari, Garden, North Nazimabad and Orangi seem to be the worst hit where water supply has been curtailed to bring daily life to a standstill.

I would like to know for what services exactly the taxpayers are paying for. Unfortunately, it is the law-abiding citizens who continue to suffer.
