PESHAWAR, Sept 27: The Peshawar University Teaching Association (Puta) has decided to observe strike against the administration and the proposed University Model Act on Oct 4.

This was decided at a Puta meeting held on Thursday to evolve a joint strategy against the proposed Act.

Presiding over the meeting, Puta chief Prof Nasir Ali Khan said the Steering Committee on Higher Education had committed that the recommendations of the Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association would be incorporated in the original draft. But unfortunately, he added, the association’s suggestions were not included in the final draft.

Criticizing the policies of the PU vice-chancellor, Mr Khan said the administration had failed to abide by the agreement signed with Puta.

It was decided that the teaching staff would wear black arm-bands and the executive committees of respective associations would observe hunger strike.

Besides, the university teaching staff held a protest rally against what they called the high-handedness of the administration.
