41 drown in Senegal

DAKAR, Sept 27: At least 41 people drowned when a boat carrying nearly 800 people capsized in a storm off the coast of the West African country of Senegal on Thursday night.

There were 32 survivors according to a provisional count, but there was no word on what had happened to 723 people apparently unaccounted for.

The boat, Le Diola, was on its way from the southern city of Ziguinchor to the capital Dakar when it capsized.—Reuters
