SWABI, Sept 26: National Awami Party Pakistan (NAPP) President Ajmal Khattak said on Wednesday that in view of the prevailing situation, there remained various obstacles to fair and free general elections.
Mr Khattak, who is also a leader of the Grand National Alliance, said it seemed as if the real representatives of people could not make their way to the parliament after the Oct polls.
Talking to newsmen, he said the first and foremost need of the country was an honest leadership who would devise result-oriented foreign and domestic policies.
NAPP chief said the past leadership had given importance to their own interests over the state’s priorities.
But an honest leadership would only focus on the strengthening of vital institutions of the country, he added.
In reply to a question, he said: “To the Pakistan’s election culture, rigging, horse-trading and changing loyalties are not new. It happened on various occasions in the past, and there is no guarantee that such events would not occur in future.”
