KARACHI: Opener Shan Masood struck his maiden first-class century on Saturday to help Division One leaders Habib Bank gain the first innings lead over Wapda on the second day of the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy National Cricket Championship clash at the Diamond Club Ground in Islamabad.

The 21-year-old Shan, a former Pakistan Under-19 vice-captain, bettered his previous highest first-class score of 98 with an undefeated 102 (257 balls, 13 boundaries) to place Habib Bank on top at 250-3 in reply to Wapda's 239 all out.

Former Test opener Saleem Elahi scored 69 during the 121-run partnership with Shan for the second wicket. Skipper Hasan Raza has made 39 in the unbroken stand of 97 with Shan.

PIA were flying high after dominating the day's action against SNGPL at the Marghazar Cricket Ground, which is also in Islamabad. Having declared their first-innings at 401-9 with skipper Kamran Sajid contributing 128 — a patient effort lasting seven hours and 20 minutes — and all-rounder Tahir Khan hitting 53 not out, PIA then reduced SNGPL to 99-7 by close of play.

ZTBL made fitting response to National Bank's 370 by going to stumps at 112-1 at the Jinnah Stadium in Sialkot. Earlier, discarded Test paceman Mohammad Khalil dismissed Naumanullah for 107 to finish with 5-112 in 32 overs.

Faisalabad's slow left-armer Aqeel Ahmed bagged 6-90 but his efforts failed to prevent Islamabad taking a lead of 46 runs on the first innings at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad. The hosts were 150-4 in their second innings.

Paceman Waqas Ahmed grabbed figures of seven for 55 to help Sialkot bowl out winless Multan for 147 and earn a handy 80-run cushion at the Gymkhana Club Ground in Okara. Multan skipper Abdur Rauf then completed a 10-wicket match haul by picking up 5-57 in Sialkot's second-innings tally of 158-7.

KRL moved within sight of a three-day victory after Lahore Ravi were forced to follow on in the Division Two fixture at the LCCA Ground in Lahore.

The three-pronged pace attack of Yasir Arafat (4-24), Rahat Ali (3-21) and Mohammad Irfan (3-25) played havoc with the Ravians as they stumbled inside 32 overs for 75 in reply to KRL's 247. However, the regional side fared much better in the second innings to close at 108-2.

State Bank also faced stiff resistance after declaring at 553-9 against Lahore Shalimar at the Sports Stadium in Sargodha as the latter reached 150-2.
