Altaf calls for resolving water problem

NAWABSHAH, Sept 25: Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain has urged Sindhi feudal lords to distribute their lands among peasants.

In a telephonic address to a gathering at Jam Saheb town on Tuesday, Altaf said former premiers as well as the present government did not provide any relief to Sindhi people during their regimes and deceived them through hallow slogans of nationalizm.

He stressed the need for resolving the problem of water shortage and demanded to provide water to growers of Jam Saheb, who were facing difficulties in cultivating their lands.

The MQM chief further demanded of the government to employ locals in the OGDC.

He also welcomed the people who joined his party and assured them the MQM would fulfil the promises made in the manifesto.

Temporary cops: More than 1000 police constables will be appointed on contract basis for three days, during the elections in Nawabshah district.

The Nawabshah police will depute 100 constables at each police station of the district from Oct 9 to 11, for the election duty.

The District Police Officer (DPO), Khamiso Khan Memon, told this scribe that the constables would be appointed on contract basis and would be deputed at various places, along with the district police.

He said they would be paid Rs100 per day.

The Taluka Police Officer, Rana Jangsher, told this scribe that the Station House Officers (SHOs) would finalise the lists of the candidates who had applied for the duty.

KIDNAPPED: A married woman was kidnapped from the line par area, Nawabshah.

One Yamin Ali lodged an FIR at the B-section police station, stating that Abdul Hakeem Manganhar, Ms Waderi, Ms Farida, Amb and Hazoor Bux, kidnapped his wife, Zareena, 25, while he was out of the city.

An FIR has been lodged under the Zina Hudood Ordinance.

Growers protest: More than 100 tail-end growers of the Jam Wah, Nusrat Canal, observed a sit-in to protest against the shortage of the irrigation water at the 68th regulator, near Jam Saheb on Monday.

The growers said the irrigation staff was selling water to the influential landlords and their fields were getting destroyed due to the non-availability of water.

They said there was enough water but the irrigation officials were implementing rotation programme.

They demanded of the irrigation minister to solve their problem.
