LAHORE, Nov 28: Mansoor Feroze Khan was re-elected vice president of the Old Ravians Union for 2010-12 on Sunday.

Drawn from all over the country, the alumni of the GCU (Old Ravians) also elected Ghulam Murtaza Paracha, Prof Ahmed Hasan, Taha Sadaqat, Saeed Ahmed Bakhsh, Shamimur Rehman Malik and Dr Salman Haider to the executive members of their union.

Noted scientist Dr Samar Mubarakmand has already been declared elected unopposed the new president, Income Tax Commissioner Ms Talat Altaf vice president (ladies), Advocate Mian Muhammad Ahmad Chachhar secretary general and Javaid Qasim Warraich treasurer.

Kazi Afaq Hussain and Zoriaz Lashari are executive committee members for 1960s and 1970s, respectively.

The balloting continued at the Salam Hall from 11am to 5pm under the supervision of election committee comprising former chairman of income tax appellate tribunal Rashid Ahmad (convener), Supreme Court's senior advocate Javed Altaf and Government College University's Sport Director Khadim Ali Khan (members).

Earlier, through a resolution the ORU general body meeting appreciated the services rendered by outgoing president Kamran Lashari to make the union a financially strong and dynamic body.

Also attended by GCU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Aftab and Dr Samar, the meeting approved the ORU accounts for 2008-10. A couple of amendments to the ORU constitution were discussed during the meeting which amicably decided that the same should be fine-tuned by the new executive committee before presentation to the next general body meeting for approval.

The outgoing president asked the Old Ravians to actively participate in the development of their alma mater. “Alumni unions do not merely hold elections, arrange reunions and dinners but also support the development of their alma maters by helping the deserving students,” he said.

The oath-taking ceremony of the new executive committee will be held next month.
