LAHORE, Sept 23: The Punjab Bar Council executive committee on Monday urged the Punjab governor, the chief justice of the Lahore High Court and the IGP to take notice of police failure to arrest the murderers of the Pattoki Bar Association president and the continuing strike of Chichawatni lawyers against the local ASP.
The PBC executive committee, which met with vice-chairman Ramzan Chaudhry in chair, pointed out that Pattoki (Kasur District) Bar Association President Abdul Jabbar had been murdered by unidentified assailants over a week ago but the police had failed to nab his culprits till date. The late Abdul Jabbar was a harmless person and had no enmity with anyone. There was great resentment among the lawyers over the inability of the police to identify and nab the murderers.
The executive committee appealed to Punjab Governor Khalid Maqbul to direct the police to arrest the murderers of the Pattoki Bar president without further delay and submit the challan of the murder case in an anti-terrorism court.
The PBC executive committee also expressed grave concern over the continuing strike of the Chichawatni lawyers against the alleged misbehaviour of ASP Moeen Masood with a delegation of lawyers which called on him to inform him about a problem faced by Rana Ghulam Asghar. —Reporter
