KARACHI: Test leg-spinner Danish Kaneria grabbed a 10-wicket haul as Habib Bank opened their account in the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy National Cricket Championship with an emphatic innings and 167-run rout of Multan on Sunday.

Kaneria, who is expected to play a pivotal role for Pakistan in the upcoming two-Test series against South Africa on the slow tracks in the UAE, followed his first-innings 6-35 with 4-41 as Multan were dismissed for 167 in the second innings on the third day of the Division One match at the Multan Cricket Stadium.

Reigning champions Karachi Blues put themselves in a winning position after SNGPL reached 17-1 in pursuit of a target of 367 st the UBL Sports Complex here. The Blues collected 289 in their second innings with talented opener Rameez Raja scoring 81. Slow left-armer Imran Khalid took 5-57 in 28 overs.

An unbeaten 53 from Anop Ravi helped PIA to a slender first-innings lead of 11 runs against hosts Islamabad who then closed at 228-7 in their second innings at the Diamond Club Ground.

National Bank were poised for victory after Rawalpindi slumped to 95-4 after the bankers set them a daunting 432-run target at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

Earlier, Test wicket-keeper Kamran Akmal, who resumed his overnight innings on 58, went onto score 103 (127 balls, 11 fours and one six) as National Bank made 374 in the second innings. State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) completed a three-day victory as they whipped Peshawar by an innings and 89 runs at the Sports Complex in Mardan.

Lahore Ravi remained on course for a similar result after reducing PTV to 215 for eight in the second innings of the match at the LCCA Ground in Lahore with leg-spinner Tanzeel Altaf taking 5-70.
