LAHORE, Sept 17: The appeal against rejection of the candidacies of PML-N leaders Shahbaz Sharif and Begum Kulsoom Nawaz would be filed in the Lahore High Court on Wednesday, the counsel for Sharif family, Ashtar Ausaf Ali, told Dawn here on Tuesday.
Mr Ausaf got himself a copy of the detailed judgment of the election tribunal comprising Justice Najamuz Zaman and Justice Pervez Ahmad, which had disqualified Mr Shahbaz and Ms Kulsoom from contesting the polls.
In an 11-page judgment, the tribunal maintained that signatures of the two candidates did not match on nomination papers and affidavits and appeared to have been forged.
Another reason for Mr Shahbaz’s disqualification was that the PML-N president in his capacity as the director of Ittefaq Brothers Ltd and Ittefaq Foundries had defaulted on two loans of Rs355 million and Rs1,072 acquired for those companies.
FULL BENCH: The Lahore High Court full bench comprising Justice Javed Butar, Justice Ijaz Chaudhry and Justice Jamshed set aside the decision of election tribunal disqualifying Mansoor Sarwar, son of former federal minister Ghulam Sarwar, from contesting the elections for NA-115.
The bench accepted the argument of the petitioner that he was not guilty of contempt of court.
Meanwhile, the bench dismissed the petition of Shazia Fazal Elahi, daughter of former president Chaudhry Fazal Elahi, and upheld the decision of election tribunal.
The bench also dismissed the petitions of Rao Tariq, Rana Nasrullah, Elahi Buksh and Ashraf Saeed.
