PESHAWAR, Sept 17: The problems of the PTCL subscribers have multiplied with the computerization of the telephone inquiry number, 17, a month ago.
Many subscribers have complained that their calls weren’t properly entertained after the installation of computers at the telephone inquiry. After a hard experience of one month, they say the previous arrangements were better.
Once the enquirers dial 17, computer welcomes them but doesn’t entertain. Then, one hears a friendly voice of the recipient, you ask for the required number, which again connects you with a computer from where you get only one number of the concerned person or organization.
“I dialled the 17 and got a number but was busy. I tried again but was given the same number. Every time I was forwarded the same number in English and Urdu,” a subscriber said, adding that earlier at inquiry 17 the operator would tell all the numbers in one go.
As the word computerisation reflects progress in any given department.
Here the case is different as in the government departments computers are operated by those who are not properly trained in the information technology.
