KARACHI: Cop shot dead

KARACHI, Oct 8: Unidentified persons shot a head constable of New Karachi police station to death on late Sunday night.

The police said that head constable Mohammed Tariq, aged 35, was sitting outside his residence with a friend, Khurram, in sector 11-L in New Karachi during an electricity breakdown, when two unidentified men, riding on a motorcycle, opened fire on them.

Both Tariq and Khurram were rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced Tariq dead on arrival. Khurram was admitted to the hospital.

A young man was found shot dead in Mehmoodabad on Monday.

The police said that an unidentified young man, in his 30s, was found shot dead close to a stormwater drain near the terminus of U-1 minibuses in Rahmaniya Colony, Mehmoodabad. He had a bullet wound in the forehead and another in the chest.

The body was sent to Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for post- mortem. It has been kept in the Edhi’s morgue for identification.

Police suspected old enmity to be a possible motive behind the killing.
