RAWALPINDI, Oct 21: Commissioner Zahid Saeed on Thursday directed the police to make foolproof security arrangements for foreigners and religious places in the division.

The commissioner asked the administrations and police of the four districts of Rawalpindi division to put in place adequate security arrangements for the visit of an Indian delegation to Kalar Kahar, Murree and Taxila next month.

He also directed the Punjab Highway Department to improve condition of roads in Murree, Kalar Kahar and Taxila before the visit.

He issued the directives at a meeting to review security arrangements. Regional Police Officer Hamid Mukhtar Gondal, district coordination officers and district police officers of Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal and Jhelum, and other senior officials attended the meeting.

For Eidul Azha and Muharramul Harram, he asked the police officials to take the administrations of religious places and seminaries on board before deploying police force in and around their premises.

He directed the district administration and police of Rawalpindi to meet with the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) and try to convince them to postpone their long march from Islamabad to Lahore on November 27.

“If they did not agree to put off their long march, the district administrations and police of Rawalpindi and Jhelum would make foolproof security arrangements for the rally,” he said.

He said the City District Government Rawalpindi (CDGR) would meet with Hizbul Tahrir office-bearers for postponing its rally on November 5 on Benazir Bhutto Road.
