Body found in Rawal Dam

ISLAMABAD, Oct 14: The body of an unidentified man was found in Rawal Dam while another was killed in a road accident in the city on Thursday, police said.

A head constable of the capital police spotted the body floating on the surface of the Rawal Dam and informed the Secretariat police who shifted it to hospital. In another incident, a man was killed and another injured when a speeding vehicle hit them on Jinnah Avenue.

Adnan Sana and Junaid Osman, who worked in a private cellular company, were going home on a motorcycle when the incident occurred.

The car driver escaped leaving behind his vehicle and the injured on the road. Later, the injured persons were shifted to hospital where Sana was pronounced dead while Osman was stated to be out of danger. The police have impounded the car. —Staff Reporter

AJK University budget

MUZAFFARABAD, Oct 14: The AJK University here on Thursday presented its Rs831.607 million budget showing a deficit of Rs35.167 million for the fiscal year 2010-11.

Presented by Prof. Dr. Ghulam Ghous, director finance and planning/secretary finance and planning committee, the budget includes Rs689.092 million for recurring fund, Rs90.931 million for development fund and Rs51.584 million for self-support fund.

At the budget presentation meeting, chaired by vice-chancellor Prof Dr Habibur Rehman, the Higher Education Commission agreed to provide supplementary grant of Rs96 million on account of increase in pay and pension.—Staff Correspondent

No decision on 2 weekly offs

ISLAMABAD, Oct 14: The government has not yet taken any decision to withdraw two holidays in a week and switch over to six working days a week, an official of Interior Ministry said.

The decision was taken to save maximum power because the country was facing severe load-shedding and the two holidays was part of government's energy conservation programme.

The interior ministry issued a notice on April 26 this year announcing two weekly holidays.—APP

Centenary celebrations

CHAKWAL, Oct 14: Centenary celebrations of Government High School No 1, Chakwal, would begin on October 17, says a pres release issued by Old Students Organisation of School.

In this regard Likhandr Singh Bahal, the grandson of the founder of the school Munshi Sant Singh, had been invited to participate in the mega event of the school.

Mr Likhandr Singh Bahal, a resident of New Delhi, who is a retired vice air marshal of Indian Air Force has assured School administration of his participation.—Correspondent

Two youth drown

TAXILA, Oct 14: Two youth drowned in Khanpur dam on Thursday, police and dam sources said.Suleman Bashir, 17, and Saleem Shahzad, 18, both students of commerce college, came from Islamabad to Khanpur dam to take bath but slipped away in deep water and drowned. Later local divers retrieved their bodies and handed over to local police for further legal action.—Correspondent
