VEHARI, Sept 13: The local government representatives have mobilized all their resources towards winning support for their ‘favourite’ candidates.

The PML-QA has awarded tickets for four national and eight provincial assembly seats with district Nazim Mumtaz Khan Khichi’s counselling.

The Nazim’s son Aftab Khan Khichi is contesting from PML-QA platform for NA-169, Vehari-III, ex-MNA Dilawar Khan Khichi’s son Aurangzeb Khichi for NA-170, Vehari-IV, Nafisa Asif Khurshid, sister-in-law of tehsil Nazim Mian Saqib Khurshid, for PP-236, Vehari-V, ex-Punjab assembly speaker Saeed Ahmed Manais’ son Asif Saeed for PP-238, Vehari-VII and Chaudhry Nazir Ahmad Jat, associate of district Naib Nazim Syed Sajid Mehdi Saleem, for NA-167, Vehari-I.

Sources told this correspondent that the Nazimeen had mobilized the entire government machinery to muster maximum support. Abusing their authority, they claimed the officials had so far spent millions of rupees for the benefit of the PML-QA candidates.

An insider said Punjab Chief Secretary Hafiz Akhtar Randhawa had played a key role in distribution of the PML-QA tickets.

They said the party had allotted ticket to Advocate Akbar Awan for PP-235, Vehari-IV, and withdrew it from him to oblige Mr Randhawa’s associate ex-MPA Nazar Muhammad Dugal.

The sources said the Vehari district Nazim and tehsil Nazim had recently met the Punjab chief secretary in Lahore to discuss the strategy.
