LAHORE, Oct 8: The Lahore High Court summarily dismissed on Monday a writ petition seeking registration of a case by police against two officers of the National Accountability Bureau for allegedly torturing PPP activist Mian Arshad Butt to death.
Justice Khalilur Rehman Ramday, who was assigned the petition moved by Rais Arshad, son of the deceased, observed that the petitioner has a legal remedy against the alleged police refusal to register an FIR. He can lodge a complaint with a competent magistrate under Section 200 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
As for the post mortem report which evidenced torture, the judge said it has to be confirmed by the chemical examiner’s report, which was still awaited from the forensic laboratory.
The petitioner had sought a direction to the police to register a murder case against Colonels Javed Zahoor and Mahmood of the NAB for torturing his father to death during interrogation. He has boycotted an inquiry instituted by the government into the killing. — Staff Reporter
