PESHAWAR: Accused in drug smuggling case acquitted

PESHAWAR, Sept 12: An anti-narcotics court here on Thursday acquitted one Shaukat, accused of drug trafficking.

Shaukat, was arrested with a huge quantity of narcotics, including seven kilograms of heroin, 60kgs of charas, from a house in Hayatabad township.

The accused had filed an application under section 263-K of the Criminal Procedure Code, dealing with the acquittal of a person before conclusion of the trial. The court accepted his application and acquitted him.

Advocate Noor Alam appeared for the accused and contended that the three prime accused, arrested on the spot by the Anti Narcotics Force (ANF), had already been acquitted by the court. He added that the accused was not directly charged in the case and was not present at the scene of the crime.

The ANF had raided a house on March 29, 2000, in Phase 4, Hayatabad and recovered narcotics from there. Three persons were arrested, namely Saeed Zaffar alias Qazi Zafar, Abdul Qadeer and Saifullah.
