Minister, 3 others killed in Kashmir

SRINAGAR, Sept 11: A minister and three others were killed on Wednesday in an attack during campaigning for upcoming elections in occupied Kashmir.

The held state’s law minister, Mushtaq Ahmad Lone, 48, was killed when gunmen opened fire while he was addressing a public gathering in the village of Rathnag, Kupwara district, an official statement said.

“The shooting left two police guards dead on the spot, and the minister critically injured,” the statement said.

It said the minister, a member of the ruling National Conference (NC) party, died on the way to hospital.

Several civilians and three other police guards were injured in the shooting, one of whom later died of his injuries.—AFP
