LAHORE, Sept 10: The Punjab University College of Information Technology intends to sack another eight visiting faculty members before the start of the new semester next month.
The PUCIT has sacked two regular and 11 visiting faculty members during the last one-and-a-half year.
According to PUCIT officials, changes in the faculty will help the college acquire the services of best faculty.
Acting principal of the PUCIT, Dr JS Mirza was also replaced by Dr MA Pasha a couple weeks ago.
Sources say the principal’s change will contribute more to the faculty crisis caused by the shortage of teachers. “It is because once the principal is changed, the bulk of the visiting faculty members is also replaced. No hard and fast rules have been observed in hiring and firing of teachers,” they said.
They said: “Apparently, the teachers have been fired because of the students evaluation but favouritism has also played a crucial role in the selection and removal of the teachers.”
The university had introduced the system of evaluation of teachers’ performance by the students about two years ago. The students evaluate performance of their teachers at the end of every semester. The management analyzed the evaluation independently and if found true, it could take action in its light.
