LAHORE, Sept 10: Three women were reportedly murdered in various parts of the city on Tuesday.

Naheed, 25, divorced twice, was chopped to death by her younger brother over suspicion at her house at Abu Bakar Street in Sherakot.

Mujahid, 20, who courted arrest with a murder weapon, said he had evidence against his sister. He claimed he had asked his sister several times to mend her ways but she did not listen to him. He said he locked her in a room and chopped her to death.

The police reached the spot and sent the body to the city mortuary for autopsy. A case was registered against the accused.

A woman was reportedly strangled allegedly by her husband over a dowry issue at Chachowal village in Burki.

Quoting Raheem Khan, the police said he had married off his daughter Mehnaz, 19, to Mohammad Hussain some one and a half year ago. He alleged Hussain used to torture her for not bringing a motorcycle in dowry.

Mehnaz gave birth to a baby girl some months ago, Raheem said, alleging this further annoyed the husband. He alleged Hussain strangled Mehnaz with the help of his brothers Jumma Khan and Daood Khan.

The body was sent to the city mortuary for autopsy. The police claimed to have arrested the three accused and registered a case against them.

Another woman was shot dead allegedly by her husband over a marriage dissolution issue at Kair village in Kahna.

Quoting family, the police said Mumtaz, 26, was married off to Imran of Kasur some two years ago.

Relations between the couple turned sour. The wife moved to her parents after giving birth to a baby boy.

Mumtaz filed a marriage dissolution suit. Imran did not want to divorce her and had tried several times to take her back with him but she did not agree.

Imran and another man, unidentified so far, visited Mumtaz on Tuesday and again tried to take her back home. On her refusal, Imran reportedly got infuriated and opened fire.

Mumtaz and his sister Nazia sustained injuries and the attackers escaped. Mumtaz died in hospital while his sister was stated to be in critical condition.

The body was sent to the city mortuary for autopsy. A case was registered against the accused with no arrest.
