KARACHI: Various areas getting filthy water

KARACHI, Sept 10: Filthy water being supplied to a number of houses in Bangalore Town — situated off Tipu Sultan Road — for the past week, has caused severe abdomen pain and diseases among some residents of the affected locality.

The residents of the affected houses complained that although two lanes of Bangalore Town had been continuously receiving black-coloured water for the last 10 days, the officials concerned of the KWSB have not yet managed to rectify the fault responsible for the contaminated water.

They complained that on one hand, they are deprived of piped water owing to contamination, and on the other, their underground tanks had been filled with dirty water, hence they have no choice but to store water in buckets and other utensils for meeting their day-to-day requirements.

Similar complaints of getting contaminated water have also been received from the residents of Sarafa Bazaar’s Kamil Lane.

Residents of the affected locality regretted that although the issue of contaminated water had been lingering for about a month, the officials concerned of the KWSB have, so far, failed to remove the causes of contaminated water.

Suspecting that sewage water might be seeping in to their locality’s pipeline, the residents of the localities getting contaminated water have demanded of the city Nazim and the KWSB managing director to order the officials concerned to remove the fault responsible for the contaminated water, or else diarrhoea and other stomach diseases will spread in the locality in an epidemic form.

Water shortage continued to persist in different sectors of Orangi, Baldia, North Karachi and Surjani Town. Complaints of acute water shortage have also been received from the residents of Gulshan-i-Iqbal’s blocks 13 and 13-A.
