ISLAMABAD, Sept 26: Federal Minister and Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) Chairperson Farzana Raja on Sunday said Rs10 billion had been distributed among flood victims and that 70 per cent registered families of the income programme received first installment of Rs4,000.
The BISP chairperson said each affected family would be given Rs12,000 under the package to bring flood victims on par with people not hit by the catastrophic flood. In a statement issued here she said a survey had been initiated in the flood-hit areas to assess the actual number of affected people registered with the BISP adding that people had pinned their hopes on the income programme.
Ms Raja regretted that some political forces and non-state actors were playing politics at the cost of flood victims and were doing nothing practically for the relief of the helpless people except for making hollow slogans.
She said the government would serve the country for five years, adding that some political parties were criticising the BISP baselessly. —Our Reporter
