PARACHINAR, Sept 13: A roadside bomb blast killed six persons and wounded four others in Kurram Agency on Sunday, local people said.
A pickup truck was heading from Sadda to Wacha Darra in Parachemkani area when an improvised explosive device planted on a dirt track exploded with a bang. Six people died on the spot while four others received injuries. The wounded were shifted to hospital in Sadda.
MARDAN: A policeman was critically injured, when an explosive device, allegedly planted by unknown miscreants near the main gate of the Lotharan Sarhadi Church here, went off with a bang on Sunday night, police said.
Mian Mazhar Shah, the SHO of the concerned police station told Dawn he along with a police party was on routine patrol in the area on Sunday night when he heard sound of an explosion.
He said they rushed to the spot and took the only injured policeman Fazal Rabi, who was deployed at the Church gate, to the DHQ hospital for treatment as he received multiple injuries during the explosion.
The explosion partially damaged the main gate and wall of the church located in the Cantt area near the building of the First Women Bank.
The officials of bomb disposal unit confirmed that 250 grams explosive material had been used in the bomb.
No militant groups had so far claimed responsibly, however, the concerned city police station had registered a case against the unidentified militants and lunched a search operation in the surrounding areas.Some reports said that it might be in reaction to the alleged desecration of Holy Quran in the United States.
KHAR, Sept 13: A Taliban commander said to be expert in making of improvised explosive devices surrendered to the security forces here on Monday.
Officials said that Qari Hussain laid down arms unconditionally through a tribal jirga and surrendered to the security forces. He was wanted in connection with terrorist activities in the tribal agency for the last three years.
Sources said that Qari Hussain, a chemical engineer by profession, was expert in making of remote controlled bombs. They said that Qari was among important militant commanders.
