LAHORE, Sept 7: Three organizations of teachers have strongly condemned the Rangers and police action against teachers and students of the Karachi University.

The KU teachers and students were severely beaten up by Rangers and police on Saturday while they were protesting over the government policy to constitute board of governors for universities.

Joint Action Committee Teachers Punjab chairman Nazim Hasnain, Punjab University Academic Staff Association president Prof Dr Haris Rasheed and the Mutahida Tulaba Mahaz acting president Syed Rashid Daud condemned the state terrorism against teachers and students.

“State terrorism can not stop the campaign of teachers and students to save educational institutions from destruction,” they said.

They said the police force had also tortured schools and college teachers in Lahore on July 29 but the government took no action against the responsible officials.

They demanded that the government should take action against those who tortured teachers in KU otherwise they would go launch a country-wide protest campaign.

Meanwhile, the Islami Jamiat-i-Tulaba, Punjab University, activists held a demonstration in front of the Lahore Press Club against police torture on KU teachers and students.

The protesters were holding placards and banners bearing inscriptions against the government. They also chanted slogans against the government. —Reporter
