KARACHI, Sept 8: The overflow of gutters has almost become a daily routine in parts of Lyari and Saddar.

Residents and shopkeepers in the localities attributed the problem to the recent digging activities carried out in the area to replace old pipelines.

Dawn received most complaints from the people living around Karabai Karimji Road and part of Shah Waliullah Road in UC-2 Darayabad, UC-3 Nawabad and UC-4 Khadda Memon Society.

Residents of the affected areas complained that gutters in their localities often become choked. They said sewage gushing out of choked manholes were not only creating unhygienic conditions, but also polluting the atmosphere.

They said that dirty water remained standing on the roads for days and caused extensive damage to streets.

The condition also created hindrance to the flow of vehicular traffic and forced pedestrians to wade the dirty water, they added.
