LAHORE, Sept 6: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal has so far not struck electoral adjustments with any party, says MMA chief Maulana Shah Ahmad Noorani.
About reports that the MMA was finalizing adjustments with the PML-N, he said the League should first settle the issue with the PPP and then approach the religious parties’ alliance.
He was talking to Dawn at the Lahore airport after his arrival from Karachi to attend the MMA summit meeting at Mansoora before launching the Lahore-Rohri train march on Saturday morning.
About Gen Musharraf’s statement that he had the choice to again take over the country if the future parliament did not cooperate with him, Noorani said the general would have to surrender before the will of the elected representatives of the masses.
He did not rule out the possibility of any give-and-take deal with the government to provide the army a safe return to their barracks.
On the establishment of the National Security Council, he reminded Gen Musharraf that Pakistan was not Turkey where army had won freedom for their people.
“Pakistan has come into being as the result of balloting and only this can guarantee its integrity.”
About fielding of candidates by the Markazi Jamiat Ahle Hadith from the PML-N platform, Maulana Noorani, who is also JUP president, said the issue would be discussed in the summit meeting. He would not elaborate the action to be taken if the MJAH led by Prof Sajid Mir did not change its decision.
The MMA leader said he did not think that the government would indulge in rigging on the poling day. “But if it did, it will have to face a mass movement like the one launched by the Pakistan National Alliance back in 1977.”
