SARGODHA, Sept 6: A police constable of Sargodha district, allegedly the ring leader of a gang of motorbike lifters, has been arrested by the Kot Momin police, SSP (Sargodha) Zafar Iqbal Qureshi told this reporter.
The man, Zulfiqar alias Zulfi, has confessed to his involvement in several cases of motorbike-lifting during investigation, the SSP added.
Mr Qureshi said that he had brought down the ceiling for police vehicles’ diesel and patrol use. The Sargodha police owes Rs10 million on this account, he added.
He said the DIG had directed the Sargodha police to develop a website to inform the general public about its performance. The website would be soon be developed, he added.
He categorically denied charges that the governor had directed the police to help any political party.
BUSTED: Sargodha police have busted five gangs of highwaymen and recovered snatched cars, motorcycles and cattle as well as a huge quantity of illicit arms.
This was stated by Deputy Inspector General of Police (Sargodha) Shamsul Hassan Mirza at a press conference here.
He said that one of the gangs of car-lifters was that of Firdaus Khan alias Haider Khan, who was killed in a police encounter. His accomplice, Jehangir alias Chatha, was injured and arrested.
The accused were residents of Lahore and also worked as hired assassins. Other gang members, namely Mian Rashid Arian of Township Lahore, Mushtaq alias Papu of Qasoor, Zulfiqar alias Fauji of Model Colony Sargodha and Sarfraz Khan Pathan of Muzalam, are still at large. The police recovered a brand new car which had been stolen from the city on August 20, an 8mm rifle and Rs10,130 in cash.
Another gang known as Mitho Gang was made up of four members including Munawar alias Mithoo of Gujrat, Ghulam Abbas of Kharian — both of them arrested. The other two, Akbar of Kharian and Safdar Muslim Sheikh, are yet to be arrested.
The police reportedly recovered a looted Hiace wagon, a truck and Rs12,900 in cash. This gang had been active in Gujrat and Mandi Bahauddin districts.
