SUKKUR, Sept 5: The consultants of the Chief Executive Secretariat-II, Mohammad Yousuf Memon and Col Siddiq, jointly held a meeting with the Nazimeen of Sukkur district at the District Council Hall, here on Thursday.
They informed the meeting that under the directives of President Gen Pervez Musharraf a comprehensive programme of visiting every district of the country has been chalked out to seek suggestions from the Nazimeen for further strengthening of the local bodies system at the grassroots level.
Mohammad Yousuf Memon asked the Nazimeen to float their suggestions before Sept 22 in order to present the same before the policy makers to make the system a consolidated one for the well-being of the common man.
He said that the union councils were the foundation stone of the local body system and its Nazimeen must play their due role for the development of their respective areas in order to achieve a goal.
Col Siddiq said that the role of the Monitoring Committee was to monitor only the functioning of the department concerned and submitting a quarterly report to the district Nazim for being discussed in the Council’s session.
During the meeting, the Nazimeen floated their suggestions.
The meeting was attended by the district Nazim, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, the DCO, Sukkur, Pir Ziaul Haq Suharwardi, and other officials concerned.
PPP ACTIVISTS: The women activists of the Pakistan People’s Party, belonging to Sukkur, Shikarpur and Ghotki, took out a joint protest rally here on Wednesday against the rejection of nomination papers of Benazir Bhutto.
Some 50 women activists also staged a demonstration in front of the Sukkur Press Club.
Talking to newsmen at the press club, Dr Yasmeen Shah said the women activists would stage a big rally tomorrow (Thursday).
She said the government wanted to keep Benazir away from the political arena of the country.
Answering a question, Dr Yasmeen said the Alliance for Restoration of Democracy meeting, schedule for Thursday, would discuss the rejection of nomination papers of PPP candidates.
