Gang-rape case to be sent to ATC

ABBOTTABAD, Sept 4: Hazara DIG Rao Amin Hashim has said that the case of the two women allegedly gang-raped in the Dewal Manal village would be sent to an anti-terrorism court for a speedy trial.

Speaking at a press conference at the Police Club here on Wednesday, the DIG said a police party had already been sent to Karachi for the arrest of main accused Iqbal, while search for other culprits continued. He said two of the accused nominated in the FIR had already been held. On the tip-off of one of the detained accused, Yousaf, the police had started search for the arrest other accused, identified as Sultan, son of Mir Akbar, Shaukat, son of Khan Afsar, Asif, son of Haider Zaman, and Mushtaq, son of Mirdad.

At a press conference on Tuesday, the victims’ family expressed dissatisfaction over the progress of investigation into the incident and demanded security and protection.

Twelve men allegedly gang-raped the wives of two brothers at the Hari Kehter village in Havelian on Aug 7, but the police failed to take any action against the accused.

The two women, accompanied by family members, while demanding police protection, said the culprits were threatening them with life.
