LUMHS students boycott classes

DADU, Sept 4: The students of the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, Jamshoro, boycotted their classes on Wednesday and staged a demonstration for an hour in front of the office of the vice chancellor of the university to protest against the arrest of a third-year MBBS student.

The students carrying banners and placards chanted slogans against the police and district administration Dadu.

They were led by the president, Sindh National Students Federation (SNSF), Muzaffar Sehto.

Addressing the protesters, the students’ leaders said that some officials of a law enforcement agency with the help of the police had arrested Abdul Hameed Radhan, organizer of the SNSF, about three days ago.

They said that the police denied having arrested the student.

Later, vice chancellor of the LUMHS, Jan Mohammad Memon, Director Students’ Affairs Syed Ali Gohar Shah, and Student Welfare Officer Dr Murtaza Daio met the delegation of students and assured them that they would talk to senior officials so that the issue could be resolved.

DISTRICT NAZIM: The district Nazim, Malik Asad Sikandar, has assured that all outstanding salaries would be paid to the employees of the Taluka municipal committees of Kotri, Dadu, Khairpur Nathan Shah, and Mehar, and to the employees of the union councils of Bolhari, Allah Bachayo Shoro, and Sita Road among others soon.

Addressing the Nazimeen, Naib Nazimeen, and councillors of union councils in the office of the Nazim of Union Council Bolhari, Kotri Taluka, on Wednesday, he said that due to the paucity of funds the Taluka municipal administrations and union councils had not paid the salaries to the employees.

PROTEST: PPP activists took out a rally in Johi on Wednesday against the rejection of nomination papers of PPP chairperson Ms Benazir Bhutto and other PPP leaders.
