PESHAWAR, Sept 3: NWFP Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah has stressed the need for identification, demarcation and restoration of the right of way of the people, especially along all major roads, in the city.
Speaking at a meeting, held here on Tuesday to review progress on mega-development projects in Peshawar, he said that due to the lack of sense of responsibility and indifferent attitude of government officials, the people had been deprived of their right of way, which was creating hurdles in the way of development projects, particularly widening of roads.
The meeting was attended among others by Chief Secretary Shakil Durrani, City District Nazim Azam Afridi, Capital City Police Chief Khurshid Alam, Traffic DIG Owais Agha, CD&MD Director-General Malik Saad and the representatives of the FWO and the National Logistic Cell.
The governor lauded the irrigation department for updating the land record of Warsak Canal, passing through the northern parts of the city, according to which 29-foot-wide right of way is available on both sides of the canal.
He directed the authorities to chalk out a proper plan of action to take back the government land.
He called for making efforts to redesign the major junctions and crossings in the city to handle the issue of traffic congestion.
Referring to the progress of work on Regi Township, the governor said efforts should be expedited to complete the micro-planning of the project in accordance with the desired level.
The meeting was informed that the Gorgathri Recreational Park, with a public library within its premises, would be completed within a month. Similarly, work on all the major projects is progressing in accordance with the required standard and specification.
LAW & ORDER: Presiding over a meeting on the law and order situation, the governor directed the police authorities to identify such public places in the city as well as in all the district headquarters, where political parties and the contesting candidates could hold public meetings.
