HYDERABAD, Aug 31: Sindh Health and Population Welfare Minister Ahsan Ahmad on Saturday laid the foundation stone of “research centre” at the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS), Jamshoro.
Speaking on the occasion, Ahmad, who is also the pro-vice chancellor of the university, said effective and efficient prevention, diagnosis and management of diseases required continuous research in basic medical sciences but unfortunately it was either non-existent or insignificant in Pakistan.
He said the probable reason for the absence of research could be that the infrastructure of medical colleges did not provide sufficient facilities for research work and added the establishment of medical research centre at the LUMHS was a step in the right direction.
He said by successfully forging collaboration for research with national and international organizations, the research products would have a good effect in improving the quality of health care for masses.
The health minister hoped the faculty of the university under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Dr Jan Mohammad Memon would utilize the research facilities to the maximum and would come out with indigenous solutions and treatment for common diseases prevailing in the country.
He also thanked the Sindh governor and his cabinet colleagues for extending their support to establish the medical university in the public sector.
Dr Memon briefed the minister about the ongoing and future research projects of the medical university.
