BAHAWALPUR, Aug 25: Some of the potential candidates have decided that they would try their luck for national assembly’s seats in Bahawalpur.

Aitzaz Ahsan had already filed his nomination papers for NA-187, Bahawalpur V, from the platform of People’s Party (parliamentarians).

Tehreek-i-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan and Pakistan Seraiki Party President Taj Muhammad Langah on Sunday submitted their nomination papers for NA-183, Bahawalpur I, tehsil Ahmadpur East.

This is the constituency from where the Abbasi family has been out of the arena due to graduation condition. Nawab Salahuddin Abbasi, who had thrice contested from this constituency in the past, has also been ousted.

Dawn learnt that PML-Z chief, ex-MNA Ijazul Haq, is also interested to contest from national assembly seat in tehsil Yazman. He is scheduled to arrive in Hasilpur on Sunday night.

There are a number of politicians who have introduced their relatives after disqualification. Former MNA Aqeelur Rahman has fielded his son Baleeghur Rahman from NA-186, Bahawalpur IV, against ex-health minister Syed Tasneem Nawaz Gardezi and ex-MNA Mian Riaz Husain Peerzada.

Nawaz Sharif’s associate, former parliamentary secretary Samiullah Chaudhry, has fielded his sister Gule Rana on the PML(N) ticket from NA-185, Bahawalpur III.

Meanwhile, seven union council Nazimeen and 14 Naib Nazimeen at a press conference on Sunday said they would support Bahawalpur tehsil Naib Nazim Syed Abdul Moeed Shah Bokhari in case he contested.

Mr Bokhari, who had joined the PML(N) on Saturday, told this correspondent that the party high-ups were reluctant to award him ticket and now he was approaching the high command for it.
