Though confident on the outside, Cancerians are deeply emotional inside, who like the stability of their home and being near their loved ones. They are nurturing and caring in the family setting and need continued reassurance, compassion, guidance and a secure emotional environment.

They are very affectionate, gentle, sympathetic and considerate, but their vulnerable nature makes them crave for love constantly. They often hold on to the past and their childhood. When hurt or disappointed, like the crab, a Cancer child will retreat into his shell and shut out the world for a while. This is why they can appear to be moody and sulky, but this is because they may be more affected by things that others take lightly. They don't take insults lightly and don't like being ridiculed. In self-defence, they can spring into an attack, even if the threat is only a fragment of their own imagination. They do things after a lot of consideration and careful analysis and if they fail, they can brood for a long time. Cancerian children are deeply attached to their parents and their relationship with their parents has lasting emotional influence on their personality. Some remain mama's boys all their life. They need a warm and secure family life to give them strength and stability and this will be a lifelong need, so even as adults, they need to come back each day to a nice cosy home after facing the big bad world outside.

A word of caution don't force the child to do or like something they strongly dislike. No matter how absurd the reasoning for the dislike may seem to you, it has some deep emotional foundation that you just got to accept, if not understand.

Personality
Cancer is a water sign, with the moon as the ruling planet and associated with nurturing, both as the giver and receiver. It is the most nurturing sign in the zodiac and they value their family and friends over fame and fortune. Their sensitive nature makes them feel the pain of others, whether it be physical, financial or emotional. But sometimes they can be difficult to understand as their emotions overtake their sensible side and lead them to mood swings. Those around them need to know that when they have gone into their shell, they need to be left alone.

Their sensitivity makes them extremely intuitive and imaginative, thus you will often find them as great artists and designers. Despite being courageous and with an abundance of energy, a Cancerian is not a risk taker for he cautiously checks all the facts before taking the plunge.

On the other side, he can seem a bit selfish, rash and quick tempered and even quarrelsome. He can be possessive and unforgiving too.
