HARIPUR, Aug 19: The Press must extend a helping hand to create awareness about birth control because natural resources are rapidly depleting in the country due to fast population growth.
This was the crux of the speeches delivered at a workshop, jointly organized by the Kato Centre, Haripur, and the Family Planning Association of Pakistan (FPAP) here on Monday.
The speakers highlighted the reasons, percentage and effects of rapid population growth as well as the mortality rate among mothers and infants in the country.
Terming the fast population growth a dangerous trend, a FPAP representative exhorted the people and the Press to ponder over the issue and make concerted efforts to check the birth rate and further depletion of the natural resources.
He said the unchecked population growth would add to the sense of deprivation that had already led to corruption. —Correspondent
