PESHAWAR, Aug 19: On the first day of nomination papers filing for the general elections, the  returning officers of four National Assembly and 11 provincial assembly constituencies of the provincial capital began providing nomination papers to the expected candidates on Monday.

The returning officers of the 15 constituencies — eight of whom are additional district and sessions judges and remaining seven are civil judges cum judicial magistrates — are provided three kinds of forms by the Election Commission.

The white forms are meant for candidates contesting against general seats, Pink forms are for female candidates on reserved seats and green forms are for minorities candidates contesting against seats reserved for them. Last date for submission of nomination papers is August 24.

The district and sessions judge, Peshawar, Ziauddin Khattak, has been designated as the district returning officer. Very few people turned up to get nomination papers on Monday. However, a returning officer told Dawn that as Monday was the first day of getting nomination papers, the process might pick up momentum in a day or two.

The seats reserved for women and minorities will be filled through the proportional representation system.

For NWFP eight NA seats and 22 provincial assembly seats have been reserved for women, whereas three seats are reserved for minorities in the NWFP Assembly.
